Bizarre sports injuries revealed

4/11/2009
Bizarre sports injuries revealed - Ultralieve ProA US sports website has compiled a list of the most bizarre sports injuries of recent times, proving that painful aches and sprains can occur in a number of ways.

Produced by NESN.com, the list was inspired by the case of Glen 'Big Baby' Davis, the Boston Celtics basketball player who recently broke his right thumb during a fight with a childhood friend.

Other strange injuries highlighted by the website include baseball's Wade Boggs, the former Boston Red Sox player who is said to have sprained his lower back while pulling off cowboy boots in the mid-1980s.

Joel Zumaya, another baseball star, reportedly strained his wrist and forearm while playing on the Guitar Hero video game.

Meanwhile, Sammy Sosa of the Chicago Cubs spent a month on the sidelines in 2004 due to back pain resulting from two violent sneezes in the clubhouse before a match.

Earlier this week, a report from the Daily Mail revealed how heavy sneezing has been known to cause severe muscle strains, slipped discs and cracked ribs.

A number of bizarre injuries have also befallen sportsmen in the UK, with Southampton goalkeeper Dave Beasant famously rupturing ankle ligaments by dropping a jar of salad cream on his foot in 1993.
