Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech will be out of action for a month, the club has revealed.

The Czech Republic star pulled up in pain during Wednesday night's Champions League game against Internazionale in Milan and a club statement has confirmed that the injury was to his calf.

An official statement said that he had torn the muscle and will be out of action for between three and four weeks.

Such an injury may come as a significant blow to the team as it chases silverware on three fronts.

Those suffering pain from a torn muscle injury themselves may find that using ultrasound machines to treat the affected area helps to ease the level of discomfort.

Petr Cech joined Chelsea in 2004 from French side Stade Rennais and gained a reputation as one of the best goalkeers in the world.

However, he has had significant injury problems to overcome, including a fractured skull that forces him to play in a special helmet.
