Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey's knee injury is not as bad as feared, it has been revealed. The American had a scan after being taken off against Blackburn at the weekend amid fears of a severe ligament tear, but the examination revealed that only "moderate damage" had been sustained, according to a club statement.
Fulham went on to note that as a consequence, no operation will be required and the player can expect to be in action again before the end of the season.
Such a situation means that Dempsey can look forward to playing in the world cup in the summer, when the USA will face England in the group stages.
Those recovering from a knee ligament injury may find that ultrasound treatment aids recovery.
Another player who is undergoing assessment to establish the extent of a knee injury is Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, who broke down in training while on international duty with Ghana in the African Cup of Nations.
