Knee pain troubles Radcliffe at New York marathon

Paula Radcliffe finished a disappointing fourth in the New York City Marathon on Sunday (November 1st) after struggling with knee pain throughout the race.Aiming to win her third New York title in a row, the 35-year-old athlete was seen clutching the back of her left leg in pain as she crossed the finish line.
Radcliffe later revealed that the problem was tendonitis in the back of her left knee, which required a cortisone injection before the race and began to cause her pain after about 11 miles.
However, despite being "very disappointed", the world record holder told BBC Radio Five Live that she plans to overcome the injury and keep running.
"I just need to take a little time out and let my body recover and get strong," Radcliffe said.
Tendonitis is the inflammation of a tendon as a result of excessive physical activity and can be eased with the use of ultrasound, which promotes healing by stimulating soft tissue and reducing local swelling.
