British tennis star Andy Murray insisted that he was not troubled by back pain after defeating Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3, 6-1 at the Valencia Open on Tuesday (November 3rd).Playing for the first time in six weeks, the 22-year-old winced and held his back several times during the match, but nevertheless recorded a comfortable victory over the Spanish qualifier.
Speaking after the match, Murray said that his back was "just stiff" as a result of his recent spell on the sidelines with an injury to his left wrist.
"I felt it a bit but that always happens when you haven't played for a while. I thought I played pretty well, considering I hadn't played for a long time," the world number four commented.
French tennis player Gael Monfils was affected by back pain at the Shanghai Masters last month, when he was forced to pull out midway through a match with Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic.
Lower back strains can be treated by ultrasound, which accelerates healing in patients by increasing blood flow to reduce swelling and inflammation.
