Nerve operation helps with back pain
29/12/2009
A man has undertaken laser surgery to cure his back pain that involved lasers destroying the nerves around the area of discomfort.Sufferer Mark Sappol told the Daily Mail he had persistent problems since childhood, with compressed discs being the primary cause.
He was referred to pain specialist Dr Rajesh Munglani, who used a radiofrequency technique to burn out nerves close to the discs.
Although the first operation was unsuccessful, Dr Munglani returned with a more advanced form of the procedure, which Mr Sappol said has completely removed the pain and enabled him to undertake activities he was previously unable to do, such as taking long walks.
The surgeon told the paper that most people do not need such radical action to deal with back pain.
Those with a problem that falls into such a category may find that ultrasound treatment helps to provide the necessary alleviation.
Massage therapist Conor Collins recently said in an article he penned for theSpec.com that people should not regard back pain as just a fact of life.
