Michael Owen will miss the rest of the football season after undergoing an operation on his hamstring. The Manchester United forward pulled up in pain during the Carling Cup Final last weekend and an assessment of the injury has revealed that surgery was required.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed the news via the club website, stating: "It's a terrible blow for the lad and disappointing for us, too. He never missed a training session all season."
The United boss said a combination of bad luck and the "heavy" pitch at Wembley were responsible for the injury.
Responding to the news, 30-year-old Owen said he was determined to recover from the situation and be back in action "in peak condition" for next season.
People suffering muscle strains may find that using mobile ultrasound devices helps to ease their discomfort.
