Pilates 'can prevent back pain'

Pilates can be one method to help people recover from and prevent future back pain, according to a registered physiotherapist in Jamaica.Speaking to Selena DeLeon of the Jamaica Observer, Kimberley Powell commented that Pilates-based exercises can be a great way to help stabilise and strengthen the spine and abdominals.
Ms Powell claimed that she was initially sceptical about the benefits of Pilates to help her with her back pain after two "major falls" at work, the exercises have helped her combat her chronic lower back trouble while also improving her pain perception and stress level.
"I have found yoga and pilates-inspired exercises to work exceptionally well in my patients," she said. "I have observed dramatic positive outcomes when these exercises are used in the acute-chronic stages of recovery."
An alternative to Pilates when treating back pain is to use ultrasound at home, which can be another effective way of easing the condition.
Yoga has also recently been highlighted by a teacher at Stamford University as a practice that can improve back health.
