A muscle strain suffered by Wayne Rooney yesterday (May 9th) will not jeopardise his place in the England World Cup squad, it has been stated.

The striker limped off the field after 77 minutes of Manchester United's final game of the Premier League season with a recurrence of the groin strain injury he suffered in training last month.

However, any fears that he may be out of action for the showpiece event in South Africa were quickly dismissed by assistant manager Mike Phelan.

Phelan said: "All the phone calls and all the worries we can dispel straight away.

"He should be fine. It is just a precaution and he will be looking forward to his World Cup."
