Rooney groin injury 'not serious'
10/5/2010
A muscle strain suffered by Wayne Rooney yesterday (May 9th) will not jeopardise his place in the England World Cup squad, it has been stated. The striker limped off the field after 77 minutes of Manchester United's final game of the Premier League season with a recurrence of the groin strain injury he suffered in training last month.
However, any fears that he may be out of action for the showpiece event in South Africa were quickly dismissed by assistant manager Mike Phelan.
Phelan said: "All the phone calls and all the worries we can dispel straight away.
"He should be fine. It is just a precaution and he will be looking forward to his World Cup."
Those who are suffering with a muscle strain and wish to improve their fitness quickly may find using an ultrasound probe helps speed up the recovery process.
Another forward hoping to be named in the England squad this week is Bobby Zamora.
The Fulham forward is expected to be included in the party despite an ankle injury that leaves him in a race against time to be fit for this week's Europa League final against Athletico Madrid in Hamburg.
