Staying active 'helps deal with arthritis'
16/2/2010
Arthritis sufferers have been advised to take six 15-minute walks each week and eat shellfish to combat its symptoms.Researchers from Australia claimed in a study published in the journal Arthritis Research and Therapy that people eating shellfish-based supplements and taking the strolls saw levels of pain and stiffness fall by 13 per cent, the Daily Mail reports.
The chemical in the shellfish is glucosamine, which is known to help stop joints deteriorating.
"Although this study included a small sample, the findings provide preliminary evidence that osteoarthritis sufferers can obtain health-related benefits from the combination of glucosamine and walking," the researchers concluded.
It stated that no previous study had assessed the effects of using the combined treatment.
Those looking for a way to ease the pain of osteoarthritis may find that the use of home ultrasound is an effective method of achieving this aim.
Other claims for relief from arthritis have seen individuals claiming that the consumption of cider vinegar has helped.
Linda Faulkner from Essex and Sarah Gall from Rochdale have both said that the substance has dramatically eased their symptoms.
