Strauss warning over playing too much cricket
9/4/2010
England cricket captain Andrew Strauss has warned that playing too much cricket could cause sporting injuries to occur.Speaking ahead of today's (April 9th) start of the domestic cricket season, the Ashes-winning skipper said that the volume of cricket being played and the length of the season was too long and called for the game's administrators to act.
"Counties might have to adopt a rotation policy and rest players, especially bowlers, to ensure the squad are in the best possible shape by the time we reach September," he said.
England's top players are shielded from the rigours of a full county programme due to having central contracts, which ensures the amount they play is limited and Strauss himself was rested for the recent tour of Bangladesh.
Those who sustain injuries during the summer such as back strains may find that using portable ultrasound machines help them recover quickly.
One cricketer hoping to be back in action soon after a back strain is England bowler Graham Onions, who flew home early from Bangladesh with the injury.
