Veteran luge competitor Tony Benshoof has revealed he is planning to take part in the Winter Olympics in Vancouver with three herniated discs in his spine as he battles through the pain in search of a gold medal. The 34-year-old commented that he will push on to what is likely to be his last winter games this month, having represented the US twice before.
Benshoof, who has been competing for 21 years, stated: "I'm getting old and my back is failing. There's no question about it."
He has already had several injections in his back but will try exercises and anti-inflammatories to get through the pain.
Those struggling with a back injury and inflammation may find that portable ultrasound treatment helps to deal with the problem.
In his recent Twitter blogs, the athlete posted about having a cortisone injection on December 24th and said on January 5th that "back is holding strong so far".
