A significant number of people who go skiing this winter will suffer broken bones and muscle or tendon injuries, according to new figures from Austria. The Wiener Zeitung newspaper reports that the country's Committee for Traffic Safety expects about 56,000 people to be hospitalised by skiing injuries this season.
According to the organisation, 58,100 skiers sustained injuries on Austrian slopes during the last winter period.
The committee said that 32 per cent of injured skiers and 17 per cent of injured snowboarders suffered muscle or tendon problems last year.
Between nine and ten million people are expected to ski in Austria, which boasts resorts such as Mayrhofen and Kirchberg, this season.
People returning from their skiing trip with muscle cramps and aches may find that ultrasound treatments such as the Ultralieve Pro can accelerate healing and relieve pain.
Earlier this year, a poll conducted by the Daily Telegraph discovered that only 39 per cent of British winter holidaymakers wear a helmet on the pistes, despite the dangers of sustaining a head injury.
